Along with celebrating Shabbat, and a weekly Jewish theme, counselors and specialists incorporate Jewish values and cultural influence into their regular activities.
Meet Fara and the Camp JCC Team!
Camp Director Fara Gold is a camper at heart. For the past 10 years, her professional camp background includes Travel Camp Director at the JCC in Orlando, Florida; Associate Director at B’nai B’rith Perlman Camp; and Program Director at Capital Camps. Fara has spent the last 10 years in the Greater Washington Area focusing on informal Jewish education, working on program design and professional development. Fara’s degree in Human Resource Training and Development has guided her in creating training workshops for the Walt Disney World Company, as well as youth group and camp staff orientations and continuing education. Since 2007, Fara has lead the Youth and Teen Department of the JCC of Greater Washington.
Experienced professionals supervise and implement all of Camp JCC ’s programs. Campers are under the direct supervision of a trained staff member at all times. At Camp JCC , we exceed American Camp Association staff/ camper ratios.
How do I get to Camp JCC ?
Bus — Roundtrip bus transportation is available at an additional fee. Campers will be met at the JCC upon arrival and escorted to their groups. At dismissal, campers will be escorted to buses for their return home. Bus counselors ride buses to help ensure the safety of all children. To insure a space, all requests, including those for bus stop changes, must be received by March 31, 2010.
Carpool — Camp JCC offers a convenient carpool drop off and pick up lane. Parents can also choose to park and walk their campers into their base rooms before camp and pick them up in
the parent pick up room after camp. For questions or assistance regarding transportation, please contact
transportation@jccgw.org.
Accreditation and Licensing
Camp JCC is accredited by the American Camp Association, and is licensed by the Maryland State Department of Health and Mental Hygiene under the Maryland Youth Camp Act.
Security and Safety
Camper safety is of utmost importance at Camp JCC. We have ensured that our security—in the building, on the grounds, and in the pool—meets or exceeds all standards. Even still, the JCC has instituted a number of additional security measures to secure the building and grounds. The size, quality and training of our “camptacular” staff reflect our concern. Many of our staff members have First Aid certification and CPR training specifically for children. We provide a fully staffed Health Center with a Registered Head Nurse and additional staff. Camp staff augments the pool supervision of full-time lifeguards. Multiple daily safety checks are made throughout the facility. Staff members and volunteers at Camp JCC have had a criminal background check completed by the Maryland State Police and the FBI. In addition, we have outside experts/consultants review our procedures to ensure we provide the safest camp experience possible.
